The Belleville neighborhood is located in the east part of Paris, between several arrondissement (9 the), 11 the and 19 the, 20 the), and is one of the most visited places in Paris.
It’s also a favorite area for me if I’m looking to eat out. This is because you can find cuisines from all around the globe in the same street as the typical Parisian restaurants.
Many fusion restaurants have been established in the area due to increased gentrification. However, the neighborhood’s spirit has not disappeared completely. This neighborhood is home to both hipster spots and traditional cuisines from around the globe. Below are my top picks; read on to find out more!
1. Le Food Market
Belleville’s weekly food market takes place once a month on Thursday. It is worth a visit if your passion for street food is like mine. This street event takes place on the boulevard de Belleville. The avenue is kept pedestrian-only.
Le Food Market offers 20 street food stands with generous portions and less than 10 EUR. It also features cuisines from around the globe, as well as fresh, delicious products. These stands are a must-see for me whenever I visit Vietnam and Mexico.
2. Wenzhou
There is not much to say about Whenzhou other than that it is one the most well-known dining restaurant in belleville. The small restaurant is not very fancy, but it is a landmark in the area for lovers of Chinese food.
The food served in this canteen is delicious, affordable, and freshly prepared.
3. La Cantine de Belleville
You are looking for French cuisine modern in Belleville? La Cantine de Belleville is the place to go. This simple and classic canteen offers delicious French food, including great steaks and tartares.
It isn’t the most elegant cuisine, but it is the center of underground music in Paris. There are concerts at night.
4. Bubble Tea
This is the perfect bubble tea recipe for novices! Bubble Tea Belleville was the first to offer the traditional Taiwanese beverage in Paris. The staff is friendly and welcoming, they have a wide selection of tea flavors, and their tea is delicious. This is the place to go if you love bubble tea.
5. Mukura
Mukura is my favorite address on this list. This restaurant is located in the heart of Belleville and serves Colombian fusion cuisines with an unusual twist. The owner is extremely kind and will often prepare a dish for you if you have a particular craving. And the food is delicious!
This is a must-see for everyone, whether you are a Colombian-food lover or a novice. My favorite dish is their ceviche, a traditional dish made with marinated seafood. However, the menu can change according to the season or availability of the products.
6. Brunch Soya Cantine Bio
This is a typical example of the new hipster and healthy addresses in Belleville. It is definitely worth the extra cost. Brunch here is guaranteed to be unforgettable because they offer complementary and carefully-curated dishes.
7. Fromagerie Beillevaire
You will pay more if you stop by this Belleville cheese vendor. They only source their cheese locally and it is of exceptional quality. There are some of France’s most renowned chefs who source their cheese from there.
Ask the cheese sellers for advice. They are experts on all the products and will gladly help you.
9. Lao Siam
Asian food lovers will find another spot on Belleville Street. The queue stretching along the sidewalk will instantly identify the restaurant. Lao Siam’s Thai fusion cuisine is fresh and freshly prepared. This has helped them to build a reputation.
Because they offer many different dishes, and often change their menus to keep it fresh, the restaurant has become a popular spot for residents. Their Bo Bun is a favorite of mine, so make sure you try it if your are passing by.
10. Co My Canteen
This canteen features long wooden benches and delicious Vietnamese food. It is a landmark in Belleville, particularly for late-night meals after a concert at Maroquinerie (an alternative Parisian concert venue and one of my personal favorites).
