Sore throat on one side

It is not always clear why one side of your throat feels sore.

Swollen lymph nodes

As a result, the lymph nodes can swell up and become sore. The lymph nodes can swell and become painful as they do so.

On either side of your neck, you will find the lymph nodes that are closest to the throat. Occasionally, only one lymph node is affected. This can lead to a sore neck on one side.

Swollen lymph glands can be caused by:

• A cold or influenza
• tonsillitis or strep throat
• an ear infection
• an infected tooth or mononucleosis (mono)
• cancer
• HIV
• Skin infections such as insect bites
• Inflamed acne

Postnasal drip

This is known as postnasal drip. This is called postnasal drainage. The constant drainage can irritate the throat and cause soreness or itchiness.

This drainage can cause soreness and irritation in a particular part of the throat. It may also feel as if one side is inflamed and raw.

Tonsillitis, high temperature, and trouble swallowing.

Peritonsillar abscess

A pus-filled abscess occurs within the tissue. A bacterial infection usually causes it.

The tissue near the tonsils can develop a peritonsillar infection. The pain may be intense on one side. The condition can also lead to a fever, swollen nodes, and difficulty swallowing.

Persons with peritonsillar infections need urgent medical attention. It can cause breathing problems in severe cases.

Injury of the throat

The back of the throat or mouth can be injured by many things, including:

• Burns caused by hot liquids or food
• Foods with sharp edges, such as chips and crackers
• Endotracheal Intubation is the insertion of a tube into the throat in order to assist with breathing.

Gargling warm salt water can help soothe the symptoms of a sore throat on one side.

GERD

The condition known as Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease ( or GERD) causes stomach contents, including stomach acid, to reflux into the food and throat.

GERD can be more severe at night or when you are lying down. When stomach acid is backed up, a person may experience soreness in one side of the throat.

If GERD is not treated, it can cause damage to the food pipe and throat.

Other sores and hand, foot, and mouth diseases

This viral infection is characterized by sores on the mouth, hands, and feet. The back of the tongue, the sides of your throat, and the back of your mouth can be affected. One side is more likely to have sores than the other.

Hand, foot, and mouth disease is most common in children younger than five years old. However, it can spread to older children or adults.

Vocal cord lesions

Lesions or nodules can form on the vocal cords if you misuse or overuse your voice. One side of the vocal lines may be affected by a lesion. Not everyone who damages the vocal folds feels pain.

A change in voice usually accompanies a vocal cord lesion.

The majority of vocal cord lesions can be treated. Verbal therapy and resting the voice are usually used to treat vocal cord lesions. Some lesions may require surgery.

Tumors

Cancer, while it is one of the less common causes of a sore neck, can also affect the throat area and the surrounding areas. These can be cancerous or benign.
