It doesn’t need to be difficult to keep your furniture clean. It doesn’t matter if you have expensive furniture or more common sofas and tables. You need to maintain it well. Your furniture will look like new by performing regular cleaning leather upholstery and maintenance.
To make it simpler, let’s separate furniture categories.
Painted furniture
Daily care: Painted furniture is one of the easiest items to clean in your house. Only a weekly dusting and a wipe down with cloth are required for painted furniture. It is important not to leave any watermarks or residue on the furniture’s surface. These watermarks can become permanent once they dry. It would be best if you were careful what you place on painted furniture. Consider using coasters and trays if you intend to place beverages on the furniture.
Special care: If your furniture has already been stained, there are some things you can do. This is also a good option for scratches and nicks. Make any repairs that you desire, such as sanding. Be careful when sanding, and don’t remove more paint than you need. It is possible to glue any pieces that are not attached. Match the paint colour as closely as you can when repainting. Another option is to choose a different paint colour and refinish the whole piece. Oil finishes are great for sealing and protecting painted furniture.
Wood Furniture
Daily care: Wood furniture is not all created equal. First, determine the finish of your wood. Once you have identified its type, you can research the best care for your specific finish. These include wood conditioners and cleaners. There are many ways to remove dirt, depending on your finish. All wood can be cleaned with a dry cloth. Use a dry cloth that is not contaminated with lint. Polishing furniture will bring out its natural beauty. A small amount of furniture polish can be applied to the cloth for occasional cleaning. It would be best if you used the same furniture polish every time. If you are using oil-based furniture polish, you should not use wax-based. For best results, stick to one type or polish. This will prevent polish smudges. Remember to clean in the direction of the wood. You may need a gentler method if you have antique wood furniture.
Special Care: To remove built-up dirt, use mineral spirits and a piece of lint-free fabric. You should use the product for the entire furniture. The finish might look uneven if you only clean one part.
Leather Furniture
Daily care: Leather crack easily and can dry out. Leather furniture should be kept at least two feet from direct sunlight and heat sources. Use a moist sponge/ cloth to clean your leather. Dust as usual.
Special Care: Leather furniture that is stained or stained needs special attention, especially for clean white leather couches. Use 1/4 cup of white vinegar and 1/2 cup of water, and a cloth. This can be followed up by washing the leather using leather soap and rubbing it dry with a cloth.
Upholstered Furniture
Daily care: Upholstered furniture should be kept from direct sunlight and heat sources. An attachment can be used to vacuum the furniture. This allows you to get into the crevices. Flipping pillows and cushions weekly will ensure that both sides are evenly worn. Scotchguard can be applied to prevent stains and spots.
Special Care Use a damp cloth to clean dirty upholstered furniture. You can also use a steamer if that doesn’t remove the stain. This will revive your fabric. You can also use vinegar and baking soda to remove the stain. This will “pull the stain” from your upholstery. You should only use distilled water, as regular water can leave a watermark.
