Photographs are essential for any business to promote its products or services. You could even use it as your headshot since you are the face and voice of your company. In today’s fast-paced world where you only have a few seconds to grab attention, the old saying “A picture speaks a thousand words” is even more relevant. Stock photography is fine unless it’s your headshot. However, it should not be used if it doesn’t promote your brand and product/service. You only have one chance to stand out among the crowd.

Here are some tips to help you choose the right commercial photographer for your next project.

  1. Please write a short This might seem silly since you only want to take some photos, but it will help focus your attention on the things you need to promote your business. Photography is marketing. This is a way to market your product or services in the best possible light. You wouldn’t write down a marketing plan if you didn’t have it written down.
  2. Does creativity require? Do you have a clear vision, or do you prefer the photographer to come up with ideas? Someone else will need to develop the ideas without a marketing agency or team. You could be the one to do this, but it is better to have someone else come up with key concepts/new angles. It can be difficult to spot problems in your business.
  3. Marketing experience As I have said before, photography is marketing. If they are not, make sure that they have relevant marketing experience. A person who can take great photos on a white background and a beautiful portrait may not be able to see the style that is best for your business. You could be wasting money by not having a consistent, flowing brand.
  4. Select a style. Do you require clean product shots with white backgrounds? These are often used on ecommerce websites to help sell the product. These photos also let the customer know exactly what they are getting. Would you prefer a creative shot of the product in use, what we call a scene-setting photo?
  5. Studio locationStudios can be used for more than just fashion and portrait shoots. You can create the perfect lighting conditions for any shot with them. Make sure you check to see if your photographer has one. As an added benefit, my studio is included in the price. However, this will be charged extra if we need to hire a larger studio. Many photographers don’t have a studio. Make sure you check. You may want an on-location/environmental shot, so check that your photographer is willing to travel, with the cost and whether they will bring all their kit along. Ask about their availability to work in a specific environment. If you want the photographer to do location scouting, this will usually be added on top of the normal price.
  6. Are you able to budget for your project? Although it is not something anyone likes to share, it can help your final images. Your photographer will be able to show you the types of styles that you can get for your budget. They can also suggest ways to save money if your budget is tight.
  7. Match your photographer’s expertise with your product. If you need your aircraft photographed, hire someone who is a specialist in this type of photography. While most professional commercial photographer has experience with many products/services, they also have at least one specialty.
  8. View their portfolio view portfolio. They might have many images on their site, but once they know what you want, they will show it to you (printed if they are meeting face-to-face – technology doesn’t replace high-quality portfolios). It would be best if you felt that those photos were great.
  9. Insurance Make sure they’re insured! This does not mean their camera equipment – that is their problem. You will have to provide public liability insurance if they are onsite with your expensive product. It is not a good idea to be burdened by a court case. I have standard PS1,000,000 employers’ and PS2,000,000 product liability insurance. Professional indemnity is also available. Additional public liability insurance can be purchased on a project-by-project basis.
