Reiki Healing for Beginners
Reiki, a Japanese Buddhist monk who created it over 100 years ago, is based upon a simple spiritual principle. It’s a healing technique that relies on the energy of the invisible life force. This force controls our mental, physical, and emotional well being. We can tap into untapped power when the energy flows freely. If it becomes blocked (often caused by negative thinking or unhealed trauma) we are unable to function at an optimal level.
Although it may sound like magic, many people who have spent time with a Reiki master (or as they are known) have experienced a positive shift. Reiki sessions are described by many as a combination of light touch, above-the-body energy sweep and grounding. Others describe it as an emotional realignment.
Kelsey Patel is a Reiki master who has spent years learning how to navigate subtle energy shifts. But Patel claims that anyone can learn quickly to work with energy and have an impact on the flow of energy.
First step: Energy Receiving
You must activate your Reiki energy to begin any Reiki practice. Take a few deep breaths and close your eyes. As you imagine the crown of the head opening, a stream light of healing white light will flow from your top to your heart and through your arms and legs. Ask for healing where it is most needed. If you want to give Reiki to someone you love, don’t ask for a empty cup.
Continue to breathe as you feel the energy flow. If your mind becomes busy or you start to doubt whether it is working, go back to your breath. Visualize yourself as a vessel to heal. Set an intention or prayer for healing to the highest good.
Reiki for Sleep
If you wish to give a Reiki session that is focused on sleep to a friend or relative, simply ask them to lie down and place your head near their head. You can imagine a steady stream light from your hands reaching the back of the recipient’s head, clearing their mind of any discomfort or pain.
Ask your loved one for several deep breaths. Slowly count the time between an inhale and exhale.
Ask them to slow down and see the whole day, one memory at a.m., and to then thank each memory for their contribution before letting go.
As they drift off, channel the energy through their palms and send the healing light to their entire body. For a restful night of sleep, picture your body being relaxed, healed, and heavy. This Reiki can be given for as long or as short as they wish, but usually between 15 and 30 minutes is enough to make them feel calm and relaxed.
Reiki for Stress
People often have trouble breathing when they feel anxious or stressed. This can lead to more stress. You will channel the energy of Reiki into the receiver’s body by placing your hands on their shoulders. For ten to fifteen seconds, place your hands on their shoulders. You can focus on sending energy to their entire body by breathing in deeply with them. This will naturally reduce the intensity of their mental energy and bring them back to their bodies. To help calm your person if they are lying down, place your hands behind your head.
For ultimate relaxation, I recommend that you stay in the same spot for between 15 and 20 minutes.
Final Step: Energy Sealing
After a healing session, it is important to express gratitude, cleanse your body, and close off the energy. You can simply take a step back and wipe away any excess energy. Then, you can place your hands in prayer to express gratitude to the energy and the receiver for the exchange. To signify the closing of your energies, you can draw a large circle with the arms crossed in front of your body. Then, end the prayer by placing your hands in prayer.
A Note about Adults and Kids
When you offer Reiki to your partner, or to other adults, remember that many adults have lost the ability to feel their physical and energetic bodies over time. That’s okay. It’s okay to say they don’t feel the energy moving. Although it might seem subtle, this doesn’t necessarily mean they didn’t feel the energy.
Depending on the age of your child, it may be helpful to explain what you are doing and why. Children are extremely open-minded and can see the value in alternative methods. Many parents will teach their children how to get energy and perform Reiki so that they can access their healing portals at an early age.
