The Pocketknife can be closed in many different ways.

Folders. OTF knives. Switchblades. Fixed Blades. Pocket knives come in so many varieties. Knowing how to close pocket knives is an important consideration before purchasing one.

We will show you how to safely close the most popular types of pocket knives available today. It’s important that you know how to safely close pocketknives, no matter what type of blade they have.

Frame Lock

The frame locks work by utilizing the frame to keep the blade in position once the blade is opened. You’ll need the frame to be gently pushed away from the blade when you want to close it. The steel will be released, and you can fold it into the housing.

Liner Lock

Liner locks are one of the most popular locking mechanisms. Be careful, as it is easy to do, but if you rush through the process, your fingers could be in danger. You’ll see from the video that taking your time is the best way to do this.

When you push down the blade, you must move slowly. You can put too much weight on your thumb if you do it.

Slip Joint

There is no locking mechanism inside the slip joint. The blade is opened and closed by pushing or pulling the blade. The Swiss Army Knife and Opinel #8 are two of the most famous slip-joint knives. You can close the knife by pushing the blade into the handle.

The lock on some knives, such as #8, is used to keep the blade in position while the knife is opened or closed. It is not used when the blade is being opened or shut.

Lockback Knife

A small notch is located on the back of the blade. By pressing down, the blade will be released from its locked position. The next step is similar to that of a slip-joint in that you will need to guide the blade back into its closed position.

Other Knives

Folders are only one part of the world of knives. All of these knives have different ways to close.

Fixed-Blade

There is no closing per se. However, many fixed-bladed knives are sold with sheaths or can be bought separately. Keep these knives sheathed to ensure your safety as well as the safety and durability of the blade.

Knives Automatic Knives

Switchblades or automatic knives are spring-loaded, and they open by pushing a button. Close an out-the-side opener by using a similar mechanism to a liner lock. The blade is released by pushing the tab of the bolster one way. Fold the blade back into the housing.

Butterfly Knife/Balisong

Closing a butterfly blade is an act of theater. You can learn many tricks with a butterfly knife, but the two most important are how to open and close it safely. It is always entertaining to watch the blade and handle move in a fluid motion. But be careful not to catch it when it falls.
