How often should I work out each week?
No one answer fits all. We see all types of athletes at Jack City Fitness. Some athletes work out more days per week than others. Some of them have longer sessions than others. Many factors determine how often athletes should go to the gym. These include personal goals, lifestyles, and athletic experience.
We’re here to assist you if you are starting your fitness journey and don’t know how often to work out. You can read our guide on determining the best workout frequency for you or speak to one of our trainers in person!
What Determines How Many Days You Should Workout A Week?
Your fitness goals
Let’s discuss fitness targets. What you want to achieve at the gym will determine how much you work out and how often.
If your fitness goal is to lose weight:
Our partners often begin their fitness journeys to lose a few extra pounds. This is usually accomplished by combining cardiovascular training (especially HIIT), with strength training and optimizing meal plans, all under the guidance of our nutrition counselor.
We recommend 75 minutes of intense cardio activity per week (spread over three sessions) or 150 minutes of moderate aerobic exercise spread across five sessions. Your “magic number,” however, may vary. We recommend discussing a frequency with your coach to find a suitable one.
Many of our partners looking to lose weight do a full-body workout twice or thrice weekly. It’s on top of the weekly cardio they do!
While working out to lose weight, we recommend taking at least two (but ideally three) days of rest. This is not a race; this is not a long-distance run! Even though sprints are a great HIIT exercise!
If your fitness goal is to gain muscle:
Everyone is different. Your ideal frequency may be different from your friend’s, just as it is with weight loss. That is perfectly fine. Most athletes go to the gym twice a week at minimum, ideally three. This is how they build muscle and strength.
Our bodybuilding partners generally combine strength and cardio exercises with a greater emphasis on the former. Strength-building workouts usually involve short, intense sessions (like High-Intensity Interval Training or HIIT) twice or three days a week.
These numbers may change depending on fitness level and experience. It is best to consult your coach for the correct amount to help you achieve your goals.
Your fitness goal is to move more and feel healthier:
Only some people exercise to achieve a massive body transformation. Jack City Fitness partners often join Jack City Fitness to enjoy more movement and get in touch with their bodies.
It is essential to create a schedule and routine that fits your lifestyle. Even going to the gym once a week will positively impact your life and reduce the risk of heart attack or stroke. Let yourself set your own pace, as long as you don’t go overboard or become obsessed.
You and Your Lifestyle
How often and for how long you can exercise depends on your lifestyle. Cycling or long-distance runs might be the perfect option if you have a few days off a week. Choose something intense, short, and sweet if you have to balance a full-time career with family obligations and evening courses. If you don’t have reliable transportation, combine customized Virtual Training Sessions with some real-life training.
Your Age and Experience
Would you recommend your favorite heart-pumping workout to your great-grandmother? Your 6-year-old nephew? They deserve an exercise that is tailored to their needs! You will be able to get the best results from your chosen activities because of age, fitness, and experience. These factors will also affect how often you exercise.
Do not hesitate to contact our team if you want help determining the proper workout for your age, lifestyle, or fitness goals.
What Is the Ideal Way to Exercise?
Do you have time to go to the gym?
You won’t be stopped at your desk for the eighth time in a week or have to leave after too many sessions. But Should You Go to the Gym Every Day? We all agree that “no.”
Is it wrong to go to the gym every day?
Jack City Fitness advises against a daily gym routine. What’s the deal?
It’s possible to overdo it when you work out. Overtraining yourself can cause burnout and make it harder to achieve your fitness goals.
Rest Days Are Important
It’s a common misconception that dedicated athletes must go to the gym daily. But, as we have already mentioned, there are better ideas than this. Our crew at Jack City Fitness comprises elite athletes who all believe that rest days are as important as exercising.
Do you need to work out five days a week?
Definitely! Many athletes train five days a week for weight loss and strength. They see great results. This schedule is great because it allows two days for rest.
How About Working Out Four Times A Week?
That’s also fantastic! Even one day of exercise per week can be beneficial to your health. This gives you four days to accomplish your goals and gives your body time to rest and recover.
Rest Days: Are They Necessary for Everyone?
We do not recommend rest days. However, consistency and routine can be crucial for mental health. We don’t want you to be hindered if a daily exercise routine is the key to success.
However, we recommend that you, instead of taking an entire rest day, choose one day per week to participate in a lighter and more relaxed workout even better if you can make the workout shorter than usual.
How long should you spend at the gym?
This depends on your exercise type and other factors like your fitness level, goals, and experience. More intense activities should be done in shorter bursts.
We recommend 75 minutes of intense cardio per week to lose weight. However, this should be split into three sessions each week. This does not mean 75 straight minutes of intense cardio!
It is best to have a personal opinion when things can vary depending on who you are. Meet our team and find YOUR workout.
