Did you know essential oil could be used to relieve the symptoms of Gout? Use essential oils in combination with your favorite carrier oil for a natural, gentle therapy to reduce gout symptoms.
What causes Gout?
A gout is an inflammatory form of arthritis caused by the buildup of uric acids in the joints. Gout is most commonly found in the big toe joints, but it can also occur in ankles, knees, hips, shoulders, elbows, and other joints.
Purines are natural compounds found in the body but can also be consumed by certain foods. Purines can be found in many foods, including organ meats like liver and kidneys, red meats like beef and venison, and seafood such as tuna, scallops, and sardines, as well as alcohols like beer and red wines. Alcoholic drinks sweetened with fructose may also cause an excessive amount of uric acids in the body. Gout is treated with a combination of medication and dietary restrictions.
The sharp crystals that form when too much uric acid builds up in your body can cause inflammation, redness, and pain as they irritate the tissues surrounding them. Gout flares or attacks can be of varying severity. In more severe cases, however, the sufferer may struggle to walk or exercise normally.
Gout is more common in men than in women because women have lower levels of uric acids in their system until menopause. Men can also develop Gout sooner in life, generally between 30 and 50. Women may not show signs until after menopause.
Essential oils are a great way to complement your existing gout treatment.

Topical application
Topically applying essential oils to treat Gout is the easiest way to do it. The skin easily absorbs essential oils as they are lipid-soluble substances. Does it provide immediate relief from Gout? It may not be as quick as you would like, but it will help!
Add a few drops to your skin cream or lotion, and apply to the painful areas.
Massage
Massage essential oils in the affected area for a more intense topical application. You can mix 4-6 drops of essential oil with a tablespoon of carrier oil and gently rub this mixture on the affected joints. This can be done up to three times per day to relieve symptoms.
Foot soak
A foot soak may provide relief if your feet or toes are affected by Gout. Pour 5-6 drops of essential oil into each basin. Fill one with warm water and the other with cool. After soaking your feet for 10 minutes in warm water, switch to cool water for ten more minutes. Then, you can discard the water. Gently massage your feet to remove any affected areas. Finally, pat them dry using a clean towel.

Mix 3-6 drops of your favorite essential oil with one tablespoon of carrier oil and massage into the affected area. Then, soak a soft towel in warm (but not boiling) water and wrap it around the affected area. Hold it for 2 minutes. Repeat this procedure up to three times per day.
