More people need to see how beautiful Bulgaria is. It is rich in history, tradition, and culture. The country’s landscapes are stunning, its food is delicious, and the people are friendly and warm. These are just some of the many reasons to travel to Bulgaria this year.

Bulgaria is a must-see on any trip to Eastern Europe. Make sure to stop at these ten unique places while you’re there.

Seven Rila Lakes

This is one of the most beautiful places that you will ever see. One of the 100 national tourist attractions is the 7 Rila lakes.

This is the most popular tourist group in Bulgaria. The lakes, which are located in the majestic Rila Mountain, are between 2,100 and 2500m above sea level. Each lake is named after its most distinctive feature.

The highest is Salzata (“The Tear”), and the deepest is Okoto (“The Eye”), while the largest is Bliznaka (“The Twin”). One of the most popular tourist attractions in the country is the lake.

Summer (July or August) is the best time to visit lakes.

Because of their popularity, I recommend visiting them in May, June, or September.

Many people visit the area in summer, but most go there to snap a photo and tag their experience on Facebook. They don’t want to be able to enjoy the pure beauty of it.

Musala Peak

It rises to 2,925m above sea level. Musala Peak is a lower peak in all of the Balkans. However, it can be climbed by anyone who has yet to gain prior experience.

It is a must-see place in Bulgaria.

Rila Mountain can be found in the Southwestern region of Bulgaria. The nearest cities are Samokov and Borovets.

Due to the popularity of the 7 Rila lakes, it is trendy in summer. You can also choose to visit during the week or in the off-season.

Kazanlak

Kazanlak, a city in central Bulgaria, is known as “Kazanlak.” The largest and most well-preserved Thracian tomb is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The ancient city of Sevtopolis and the Valley of the Thracian Kings are located nearby. Kazanlak, the heart of the Rose Valley, is home to the Museum of the Rose and hosts the only Rose Festival.

This year, the festival will be held between 2-5 June. Oil Roses are plants from the genus Rose. They are well-known for their essential oil used in perfumery and cosmetics.

Tryavna

Tryavna, a small village in the Gabrovo region of central Bulgaria, is located in the northernmost part. Many tourists flock to this area to see that era’s Renaissance architecture and cultural legacy.

Green meadows, ancient coniferous or deciduous trees, and old coniferous forests surround Tryavna. Clean mountain air makes it a beautiful city in winter.

Enjoy a stroll back in time, discover the architecture, and visit the museums.

Asen’s Fortress

The Fortress rises 279m above sea level. It is one of 100 national tourist sites. The Fortress has been declared a national monument. Visitors can visit the Fortress throughout the year.

Koprivshtitsa

Koprivshtitsa, a historical town in Sofia Province, lies on the Topolitsa River between the Sredna Gora Mountains. It is well-known for its traditional Bulgarian architecture and its folk music festivals. Koprivshtitsa is a historical center of the April Uprising of 1876.

You can visit museums and memorial houses in the city. Also, enjoy the spirit of the Bulgarian National Revival period during the 19 century. Koprivshtitsa, one of the most distinctive towns in Bulgaria, is a popular tourist destination.

Buzludzha

Buzludzha, the House Monument for the Bulgarian Communist Party, is a historic peak in central Bulgaria. It stands at 1,432m. The Bulgarian communist regime built it to remember the 1891 events when socialists gathered in the area to form an organized socialist movement.

This led to the creation of the Bulgarian Social Democratic Party (a precursor of the Bulgarian Communist Party). For decades, the monument was abandoned.

You can reach it by the Shipka pass road in Kazanlak, south, and the Gabrovo road in the north.

Shipka Monument

This monument is part of the Park-museum Shipka.

The summit symbolizes the heroic and self-sacrificing efforts to liberate Bulgaria from Ottoman rule.

It was built to honor the heroism and sacrifice of those who died while protecting the site during the Shipka Battle, which was critical for the Russo-Turkish War and the liberation battles of Bulgaria in the summer of 1877.

This monument is one of the 100 national tourist sites.

Nesebar

This city is one the oldest in Europe and has been around for over 3,200 years.

Nesebar is rich in history and has been included on the UNESCO World Heritage Sites List.

There are many museums and churches to visit and the Old Town for night walks during hot summer days.

Sunny Beach is the party hub of Bulgaria, right next to Nesebar.

Tourists come to this area to have fun and get drunk.

Sunny Beach is not a place I like, and I wouldn’t recommend it to you. However, if you want to enjoy the nightlife, you should go.
