Mascara, for better or for worse, is something we do every day. It’s likely that we still apply mascara the same way as we did five, ten, or fifty years ago. We expected to use it the same way as we did when we first started wearing mascara five, ten, or fifty years ago.
Look down, then wiggle and repeat. We slack our lips like we’re listening to the gossip in the supermarket. It’s a common scene. Women are creatures of habit. This is especially true when it comes to beauty.
What if there was a better solution?
We’ve spent years testing and experimenting to find the best mascara tips for achieving length, volume, and curl. These tips and formula hacks will make any woman’s lashes look voluminous, long, and full of importance.
Here are mascara tips that every woman should be aware of. And no, they don’t include “twist and don’t push.” We are not amateurs.
Be sure it’s fresh.
Clump City is your first-class ticket if you use old, stale makeup. As soon as you open a brand-new tube of mascara, the clock begins to tick. Replace your mascara at least every two months (or three).
Need to use it quickly? You can warm your tube by placing it in hot water or diluting the formula with Visine. Only use these solutions as a last resort. Grab a new line as soon as possible!
Wiggle. Wiggle. Wiggle
You can achieve traffic-stopping eyelashes by grinding. You want to use the majority of the mascara at the base of your eyelashes for the best results. Once you have completed this, adding length is easy.
The brush should be wiggled quickly back and forth only at the roots (or base!) of your lashes. Then, use a big slow motion to swipe upwards. It will ensure that the product is evenly distributed and will not clump. It can be dangerous to move the whole swipe.
Back That Wand up
Do you want your darkest, thickest lashes ever? Surprise your lashes by using a two-pronged attack. Then, swipe in a different direction. You can use your wand and coat the backside (the part that is closest to your eyelid) of your lashes. Make the most of previously untapped territory. You will instantly see the difference.
Pro Tip: Beware of smudging. You can cover your lid using a plastic spoon or business card to prevent the product from transferring onto your eyelids while you swipe.
The Tips
Now that you’ve increased the volume of your lashes, it’s time to give them the final push. Hold your bristles on your mascara brush and place them over the tips of your newly coated lashes. Apply more products with quick, miniature swipes. This is the ultimate lengthening product.
Pro Tip: Remove any excess mascara from the pointy end of the brush. (No clumps!) Start at the tip vertically.
Curling Game?
There are many ways to master the curler. We’re all guilty, first of all, of skipping this seemingly unnecessary step. The kicker is that if you don’t hold it for 8-10 seconds, the curl will go limp — and fast. Take a few extra seconds and take a break. It would be best if you had it.
Pro Tip: To maximize your curling ability when you’re going to be out all night, warm up your lash curler for 10-20 seconds with your hair dryer (depending upon your heat setting). What we don’t want: smoky lashes. What we want is a curl that lasts all night.
Crack open the Baby Powder.
It’s one of the old tricks your mother used to do but without talc! Use a Q-Tip to dust translucent face powder or baby powder on both sides of the lashes after applying one coat. You’ll panic now because it looks white and chalky. Don’t worry. You can use another coat of mascara to get the most voluminous, thickest lashes you’ve ever seen.
Try Bending your Wand
This hack will help you to apply mascara with more precision (there’s no shame in that!). You may be frustrated by your tendency to smudge your mascara degrees.
Pro Tip: Buy disposable mascara wands to avoid damaging your rod permanently.
Learn How to Layer
It was a life-changing day when we discovered the power of two mascara formulas used simultaneously. It’s not something you should do every day (who has time for that?). Nothing will customize your flutter more than choosing the two perfect formulas to apply to your lashes.
It would be best if you chose mascara with a thin brush to separate your lashes and lengthen the base. We recommend L’Oreal Telescopic Maskcara or Glossier Lashed Slick.
It’s now time to go BIG. Choose a volumizing mascara that will boost your separated, clump-free lashes. L’Oreal’s Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara and Lancome Monsieur Big Mascara are our favorites.
Your lashes will be forever grateful if you find your power couple.
Grab Primer for a Special Occasion Grab Primer
You can use baby powder if you are too afraid to do so. There are mascara primers designed to prepare your lashes for mascara application. They can help with both volume and length. Covergirl’s Lash Blast Primer is our favorite.
