We often find that customers come to us after doing some research when they want to replace or install a hot water tank in New Zealand. The price is often the deciding factor in deciding which model or size hot water cylinder they want.

It is important to take into account the initial cost of the hot water heater and its value over time. What would you consider more valuable if you had to pay the same price for two products that lasted one year and five years for the other?

Be mindful of the price of a hot water tank before you start worrying about how much they will last and how often you will need one.

How long should a hot-water cylinder last? Do I need to replace or repair my hot water tank?

You’ll want to know how long the mains pressure hot water cylinder installation will last before you spend money. What is the minimum number of times you will need to replace a hot water cylinder?

Hot water cylinders typically come with a 10-year manufacturer’s warranty.

You can expect to get 20 years out of a hot water heater cylinder if you take care of it and do regular maintenance.

If we are called to fix a hot water tank that is less than 10 year old, we will always try to replace it instead of fixing it. Even a hot water tank that is 10 to 15 years old should still be in good condition.

After a hot water tank reaches 15 years old, it is time to evaluate the benefits and costs of replacing it. A hot water cylinder that is more than 15 years old may show signs of wear depending on how hot your home is and the temperature. Your water might start to smell strange or become discolored. This could be a sign of corrosion in the anode rod or the cylinder. This will allow you to estimate that your hot water cylinder will last for nearly 20 years.

When you take all of these factors into account, you may view the initial price of a hot-water cylinder as an excellent investment.
