You’ll need to prepare to move to another state, another city, or another continent. You must clean the house yourself before you can put it on the market. It can seem overwhelming to clean up after a move-in or out, but it is possible to make it a simple task if you do your research and are organized.
A simple cleaning checklist is a great way to organize your house. However, a plan will distinguish between a smooth and challenging move-out cleaning. We have compiled a list of helpful tips to help you make your move-out cleaning as efficient and effective as possible.
1. Pack ALL Your Stuff First
The cleaning can wait. Make sure to clean the insides of your drawers and cabinets! You’ll be able to clean the house once more after packing all your stuff in storage boxes and suitcases. You’ll also have more space to clean the house efficiently, without moving all your stuff around. You can find more packing advice for moving by clicking here.
2. Move boxes to one area of the home.
You can stack the boxes in one corner of your room or another room if you cannot transport them to storage or your new apartment. It’s much easier to clean up the rest of your house by doing this. Once you have moved everything out, you can clean up any areas where you stored your boxes and make necessary repairs. To make sure nothing is left, do a final walk-through.
3. Always keep your house clean from top to bottom.
Begin your move-in and move-out cleaning by removing dust and cobwebs from ceiling lights and ceiling fans. A mask is recommended, as dust and dirt can become airborne when you tend to higher areas. To make a long-reach, dust-free duster, you can climb up a ladder or place a mop/broom over the mop/rag. Secure it with a rubber band. You can then start cleaning the walls starting at the top. Next, work your way down and change rags as you go. To remove any stubborn wall stains, use a damp cloth that’s been appropriately wrung and gently rub them. This will ensure that you don’t damage the wall or paint. Water should be changed frequently.
4. Polish Windows and Doorframes
With a quick wipe down, clean your window frames, ledges, and glass panes of dirt. Use a window cleaner to remove any stains or marks on the glass. Wipe the frames with a damp cloth to brighten them. Wipe or vacuum the tracks. For a thorough clean, vacuum or wipe the tracks around your doors and door frames.
5. Wipe Wall Plates & Light Switch Covers
These are a common household item that is often forgotten when it comes to house cleaning. The layer of dirt, grime, and fingerprints can build up over time. Spray the cleaner directly onto the cloth, not on the plate. Wipe clean.
6. Clean Kitchen Cabinets and Countertops
A deep clean may be necessary depending on the state of your kitchen cabinets. The kitchen will be inspected by landlords with a microscope before returning your deposit. You should expect your kitchen to smell great and to be clean. This may mean that you will need to do extra work.
7. Sweep, Mop, or Vacuum the Whole House
It is best to sweep, vacuum and mop all rooms at once. Because dirt and dust can easily transfer from one room to another, even if you only sweep and mop one area at a time. This can make the whole process more time-consuming. Begin by vacuuming and sweeping each room thoroughly. Next, mop the floors to give them a lasting shine. Water should be changed frequently.
8. Bathrooms Saved for the Last
Why? You and your family members or other helpers will use the bathroom often during your move out cleaning in Auckland. It is better to clean the bathrooms after everyone has used them. They will get dirty and it will take a thorough clean to make them shine again. To polish mirrors and bathtubs, use a dry cloth.
