Waterproofing For Healthy Structures

Larry Masters, a well-respected concrete technologist says that no material is durable or non-durable. It is only the interaction of the material and its in-service environment which determines its durability. Concrete’s durability is determined by its nature (which means that it will be porous) and its in-service environment. These are the three key steps to ensure concrete is durable in-service.

  • Construction practices should be in line with current best practice standards.
  • Innovative construction methods and new materials are used to increase durability and cost-effectiveness.
  • Protection of existing structures against adverse environmental conditions.

Despite all precautions taken, concrete’s durability can still be affected by other factors. Although there are too many factors to list, they can be summarized under four main categories:

  • Construction practices
  • Design,
  • Material characteristics
  • Conditions of exposure

These four factors can lead to concrete structure defects and distress. These four parameters in India have been a major problem over the last century. It is our responsibility to examine, assess, and correct the errors so that we can move forward with waterproof structures.

There are many ways that defects and distress can be manifested in structures, but the most common manifestations are leakages and dampness. Although there are many reasons that structures may leak, well-thought-out waterproofing methods can provide long-lasting benefits. It is therefore important to provide good waterproofing in auckland for a structure.

We have developed several near-perfect waterproofing methods based on recent developments in material science.
