Five Simple Landscaping Tips to Make a Big Impression

Whether you’re planning on selling your home or you just want to have a lawn and garden that’s the envy of the neighborhood, landscaping is important. It adds serious curb appeal to your home and does a lot to help with your home’s overall appearance.

It can seem like some people were born gardeners and designers when you look at their immaculate lawns, but that usually isn’t the case. They just know a few important landscaping tips that help make them experts at exterior design.

Want to learn some home improvement tips for your yard? Make sure you follow these five landscaping tips.

  1. Think Evergreen

If you want your home to look fantastic throughout the entire year, spruce up your lawn with some hardy plants. Look for plants that are native to your area and some evergreen shrubs.

These plants will look great in the colder months and will be easier to maintain. If you plant the right flowers and shrubs you may even see an uptick of local wildlife near your home!

  1. Make Walkways

After you spend time and money carefully maintaining your grass, the last thing you want is for people to walk all over it. Instead of making a “keep off the grass” sign, create some walkways to points of interest in the yard.

Use landscaping pebbles or stepping stones to create paths to your garden, shed, or other points of interest. This will keep people off the grass and add some extra flair to the look of your home.

  1. Don’t Neglect the Driveway

Nothing takes away from the look of a beautifully landscaped yard than a poorly maintained driveway. The driveway adds to the look of your home too, so don’t neglect it when you’re caring for the outdoor parts of your home.

Make it a point to regularly seal cracks in your driveway and to pressure wash some of the dirt and grime off it. Regular weeding can also help protect your driveway.

  1. Layer Your Flowers

If you’re putting the work into planting gorgeous flowers, you’re going to want to make sure plenty of people see them. Consider using a layering technique to showcase your gardening work.

Take a little time to research how tall your flowers will grow. Make sure you put the tallest ones in the back layer and the shorter ones up front to ensure each gets the attention it deserves.

  1. Think About Non-Plant Features

An immaculate lawn and beautiful plant life can help make your yard gorgeous. However, it’s important to know that they aren’t the only things that can add some style to your yard.

Consider adding a beautifully-built bench to your yard that can add seating and beauty to your exterior. Play around with fountains, koi ponds, or other water features.
