It’s about that time, the place you live in now is no longer good enough for you. Maybe you need more space, or maybe its time to start a new chapter in your life. Either way, it has to happen fast.

But you loathe the process of making it happen. You’re not alone, because most people hate moving. But you often find yourself having to do it for various reasons.

Whether it is for a job, a new chapter, or running away from the mob, moving can be a chore. If this is you, then here are some tips on how to move quickly.

Separate What You Need from What You Don’t

Let’s be honest, when we get settled in a place, we end up accumulating a large number of possessions, most times they are things we don’t need. And these things can be notoriously hard to get rid of when you move.

But this is the time to get rid of it quickly. Separate your things into three categories:

  • Keep
  • Donate
  • Toss

If it hasn’t been used or worn for over a year, either give it away or throw it away. Don’t think about it either, because you will end up keeping more than you need.

Pack the Essentials

The same rule applies here as well. Don’t think, just pack. The reality is that you will not be able to bring everything that you did end up keeping with you. So it is important to pack what you will immediately need.

Not just clothing, but personal hygiene items as well as medications that you may need, and refill those prescriptions.

Get Your Real Estate Agent on the Line

By the time you leave, you should have told your real estate agent, “I need to sell my house fast” and they should have been able to come up with at least a strategy to sell your property.

House closings can be a long process, and that can make it difficult to go if you have to move in a hurry. Make sure you have a capable real estate to handle the process effectively.

Get Some Assistance

Relocating can seem like a daunting task when you have to do it alone. Get some help from friends and family to help with packing. This also helps with the process of separating what you need from what you don’t because they will be unbiased.

But that’s not the only assistance you can use. If you are moving for a job, companies often give moving stipends, anywhere from $5,000-10,000 or even to half the total costs, to get you started in the new place.

Be sure to inquire about this from your company.
