Common Tankless Water Heater Faults And Their Respective Solutions
- Having No Hot Water
The job of a water heater is to provide you with a source of hot water and if it can’t complete its primary objective, then it can prove to be a headache. If you find that your home water supply pressure is ideal but the water heater is not producing any hot water, then the primary culprit is most probably the fuel or energy source.
According to a professional home inspector in Ottawa, tankless water heaters are generally powered by either electricity or gas. To be able to function properly, these heaters always require a constant supply of fuel.
Sometimes, non-functioning can also happen due to faulty wiring or sensors (in the case of an electric tankless water heater). If the heater uses gas as the fuel source, then it can be due to a bad burner as well.
- Buildup Of Sediments
All water heaters suffer from sediment built-up over time. The difference is that – traditional water heaters don’t need to be cleaned frequently for the sediment built-up. Even though it’s suggested to keep your water heaters clean, traditional water heaters can still work perfectly well with sediment build-up. However, the same cannot be said for tankless water heaters.
Tankless water heaters must be cleaned at least once per year. Over time, sediment build-up can lead to a reduction in the overall water pressure & quality. Furthermore, if you post-pone the cleaning process, then the sediment build-up can destroy the functioning of the entire appliance.
So, if you find the water pressure low for your tankless water heater, chances are that there is debris build-up on the inside.
Water Filter Becoming Dirty
Most tankless water heaters come with a water filter that has been fitted inline and the same must be regularly cleaned (or replaced in case of non-functioning). Generally, it’s recommended that you change the water filters at least once per month (especially if your water source has increased iron content).
So, if you find the water pressure becoming low all of a sudden, then you can be sure that it’s the fault of the water filter. Proceed to change the water filter right away and you’ll be good to go.
